INNOVATIVE CURRENTS IN CONTEMPORARY JEWISH THOUGHT: FRANZ ROSENZWEIG, EMMANUEL LEVINAS, MICHAEL FISHBANE – Led by Rabbi Klein

Contemporary Jewish thinkers, like their significant non-Jewish European and American counterparts, have mounted a challenge to the world view of the Enlightenment, a view that privileges reason, universalism, and the idea of a common humanity.

In these three sessions we will explore the path-breaking writings of Franz Rosenzweig, Emmanuel Levinas, and Michael Fishbane. We will read and discuss Rosenzweig’s work on “The New Thinking,” excerpts from Levinas’s Nine Talmudic Readings and other writings, and passages from Fishbane’s recent Sacred Attunement.
